Review of My Patriot Supply Ready Hour Food Storage: Maple Grove Oatmeal

My Patriot Supply Ready Hour Maple Grove Oatmeal Review

Packaging

It was packaged extremely well. It was packed in a mylar container that was plenty thick, and it was a container that had about 8 servings in it. It came with an oxygen absorber inside, and it looked like quality ingredients. The packaging had good, simple, clear instructions on the outside of the container. All in all, its all ready to go on your shelf, and already is packaged in the optimal conditions to maximize shelf life.

Taste

I was not overly impressed with the taste. This oatmeal, according to the ingredients and the packaging came pre-seasoned and flavored, and even included some powdered creamer. The first bowl didn’t taste like it, but later bowls did. I imagine it all settled to the bottom of the pouch. The first bowl was extremely bland and flavorless as well. Be sure you shake up or mix up the pouch if you’re not cooking up the entire package.

As you make it, I would recommend adding a pinch of salt to your water as you boil it. I also added a spoonful of brown sugar. I also added milk after the fact. If you like oatmeal more creamy, you may want to try boiling the milk instead of water.

How to Prepare My Patriot Supply Ready Hour Oatmeal

Preparing My Patriot Supply Ready Hour Oatmeal is pretty simple, and is like a lot of other quick oat oatmeal options.

  1. Open pouch and remove oxygen absorber.
  2. whisk contents of pouch into 8 cups boiling water. For a single serving use 1/2 cup of oatmeal for every 1 cup of boiling water.
  3. Cook 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally
  4. Remove from heat and let stand 2-3 minutes to thicken and cool before serving.

Final Opinion on Ready Made Maple Grove Oatmeal

If you’re looking for a tasty option that you just add water to, you might want to look elsewhere. If you like bland oatmeal, or you don’t mind adding additional flavoring, then this isn’t a bad option to have on your shelf. This oatmeal comes in the Patriot Pantry Ultimate Breakfast Kit Emergency Food Supply, and the Patriot Pantry 4-Week Emergency Food Supply. Oatmeal is a common addition to these types of kits as it takes up little space, and is a low cost high nutrient option for companies to add, albeit fairly simple and bland.

Final rating for the Ready Hour Maple Grove Oatmeal: 7/10. Edible, and flavored, and while it’s not super dreary, it’s not super exciting either.
