Review of Ready Hour Patriot Supply Buttermilk Pancakes

Review of Ready Hour Patriot Supply Buttermilk Pancake Mix

Packaging

The packaging on the pancake mix is very well done. It’s packed in a black mylar bag, with a resealable zip lock type top. It is packed in smaller portions, with only 10 servings in a bag, or enough mix to make 30 4″ pancakes. I actually prefer this because it’s easier to carry and transport as needed. You can also only open a small amount of food without risking the ruin of tons of food. They are also packed with an oxygen absorber to extend shelf life. It’s all very professionally done.

Preparation

These prepare like your average Krusteez mix- you just mix in a bit of water and you’re in business. I compare these to the standard Krusteez mix. That’s what I grew up on, and that’s what I personally like when it comes to a mix. It’s also a mix most people are familiar with, and These have the quickness and convenience, but are packaged for the long shelf life.

Taste

The taste was about on par with most other pancake mixes. The flavors were all about the same. The texture of the Ready Hour/Patriot Supply Buttermilk Pancakes was the only negative. These were a more dense pancake. I feel like your krusteez, bisquick, and even your store brand mixes all are more fluffy and airy. I like my pancakes more fluffy, and that was my only disappointment with these pancakes. It didn’t affect the flavor per se, but it did affect the mouth feel of the pancake. Perhaps whatever agent is in the pancakes that make it rise is not as shelf stable, and it was sacrificed for longevity.

Yes, I realize that made from scratch are better, but its a lot quicker and easier to add water to the powder and have pancakes cooking in seconds.

Final Rating

On a scale from 1-5, I’d give these pancakes a 3. Krusteez is about a 4 (4.5 when my grandma made them), and a good home made being a 5. These weren’t incredible, but you wouldn’t be forcing them down by any means in a survival situation, and I plan to finish eating this container I opened for this review. They’re good, not great. Pancake mix is an inexpensive filler meal that food storage companies like Ready Hour, Patriot Supply, and others add to their kits to save on cost, though the other items in the pack are great. This pancake mix comes in the Patriot Pantry Ultimate Breakfast Kit Emergency Food Supply, and the Patriot Pantry 4-Week Emergency Food Supply.
