Bug Out Bag Rifle Carrier

In a SHTF scenario, you’ll want to be able to grab everything quickly to get out of dodge. Being able to keep your rifle protected and ready to go in a bug out situation is vital. Time may be short in such a situation, so your bug out bag rifle carrier might be critical. You can get a case specific for your rifle, or you can get a backpack that can accommodate a rifle.

A Rifle Carrier Just For Your Rifle

Our preferred rifle carrier is a soft case in a bug out situation. We like light weight cases with plenty of storage space and is big enough that you can open it up to use as a shooting mat. We like a hard case for taking rifles to the range, but a soft carrier case is just better and more versatile in a bug out situation.

Our favorite is the Savior Equipment Double Rifle Gun Bag. You can either take 2 rifles, or you can fill the other side with equipment. We’re also huge fans of the pockets on the side. Most soft rifle cases have side pockets, but they’re barely enough to put a magazine or two in. This case has tons of carrying space for any additional ammo or gear you may need or want in your bug out rifle shooting kit. This case will work for any number of types of rifles, from an AR to a bolt gun.

The Best Bug Out Bag with Quick Deploy Rifle Carrier

If you want your rifle well secured and out of the way, but also still quickly accessible, there is nothing better we’ve found than the Vorn Hunting Rifle Backpack. It secures your pack in a sleeve/envelope that can open with the pull of a ring on the shoulder strap, allowing you to bring your rifle around and engage whatever you may need to. The video below illustrates it really well. This pack is significantly more expensive than the others on the list, but it’s also set the standard for what a backpack with a build in rifle carrier should be. If you’ve got the money, this is exactly what you’re looking for.

Vorn Deer Hunting Backpack – 42 Liters

Less Expensive Medium Sized Bug Out Bag with Rifle Carrier

At time we’re writing this, the Tidewe Hunting Pack is about 1/3 the price of the Vorn pack. This pack can hold a rifle, but it doesn’t have a quick release option. The Tidewe has an internal frame, and can hold 55L. It’s comfortable and durable and has great reviews on Amazon by hunters and backpackers.

Large Bug Out Bag with Built In Rifle Carrier

If you’re looking for maximum capacity, we recommend an external frame pack. Our favorite large bug out bag with a rifle holder has just that, and also has a 90L capacity to boot. This backpack, as a bug out bag, can carry your rifle, or a bow, even a fancy compound bow. This bag can also expand to hold even more. It’s not as classy as the Vorn, but it has a much higher capacity.

Shoulder Strap Rifle Sling Hook

This is great, and a low cost option. It keeps your rifle accessible. It’s not the most comfortable way to carry a rifle though, and it’s not as out of the way as it would be if it were in the pack. It is more comfortable, and more secured than it would be with JUST a shoulder sling though.

What’s the Status of Your Bug Out Bag?

A rifle or a firearm is a vital part of your bug out bag, but you need all the right gear in a SHTF scenario, and there is little margin for error. When your life depends on it, you want to make sure you haven’t forgotten anything, and you can’t drink bullets. For that reason we put together an extensive bug out bag checklist to help you determine if you’re prepared, should you ever need to get out of dodge.
